This surgery can be performed on patients with ASD (Atrial Septal Defect). These patients suffer from a hole in the wall (septum) of the heart that causes oxygenated blood to mix with deoxygenated blood, rather than properly circulating throughout the body. As time goes on, tissue grows over the device, permanently correcting the issue.
